{Lychee Margarita} Memorial Day Weekend Recap!

After I left you Saturday, the day was was full of some of my usual Saturday activities.

Later that afternoon, I headed to the island. This weekend marks my parent’s 27th wedding anniversary and they had dinner reservations here on Bainbridge – and wanted me to join them. I happily tagged along. I had been to Four Swallows before, but never in my drinking age, so it was a more fun experience.

The outfit du jour:

White crop jeans - Khols, black tank - Express, jean jacket and black belt- Forever 21, gold flats - Nordstrom - with a side of WA state ferries in the background :P.

Dinner was great, featuring pouring red wine and grilled prawns — some of my favorites ๐Ÿ™‚

Sunday we attended a housewarming party on the island. My parent’s collegue has lived here for a few months now but just had everyone she works with over to see her place. She lives in an adorable little house pretty close to the water, with some really unique middle and far-Eastern decorations, lots of light and very “Crate and Barrel”-esque furniture. Seeing decorated houses like that makes me excited to have my own!

The party included “work” for the guests. We were instructed to use these watercolors she had put out to make a “favorite thing about Bainbridge” painting, which she is going to put together with the rest, into a big piece.

I left early in the afternoon to head back to the city. My friend and I had plans to hit up Happy Hour and then go to Folklife, a Seattle music festival going on every Memorial Day weekend.ย ย We walked through the festival for a while but decided it was too cold/too many people……so instead ย headed to a thai restaurant for that ‘happiest of‘ hour.

I ordered a Lychee margarita while she went with a chambord lemon drop.ย I figured when in Rome Thailand, order something lychee… but honestly, it wasn’t really my favorite. Oh well, I will know next time! We had an interesting bar conversation with a (much older) couple sitting next to us… and overall a fun time out last night!

Lychee Margarita.

Sweet lemon drop with chambord.

…And because sometimes all you really need with drinks like this is to share a big tower of fried thai food…..ย

Calamari, spring rolls and crab rangoon, coconut prawns.

We got back to her house later, continued the party hanging out and crashed out. This morning I got home, and have to get ready to go babysit in a few minutes for a little girl I have been watching for over a year now. Not really a “day off”, but it should be fun, and make me some extra ca$h money!

What are your memorial day plans??

Have you ever tried / do you like lychee? What’s the weirdest thing you’ve had in your drink? ย

Ps: Have you entered my giveaway yet?! Have you entered Katie’s giveaway?! Another Ps – I did get to see this face yesterday ๐Ÿ˜‰ย

My Last Weekend of Freedom.

Last weekend was certainly a “last hurrah” of the summer, of sorts. It included highlights of some of my favorite things: (I am so predictable ;P)

After working a lot last week (put in extra hours so I could work less this week, the first week of school), I was more than ready to relax. Too bad I got sick but regardless, the Puyallup Fair, a Harvest fair, hanging out with new friends, old friends, going home to see family, trailย riding Gaston, going to the Farmer’s market, and of course, that amazing dinner, wine, and beach bonfire…. it was quite the summer-ending weekend!

The Harvest Fair…
A locally grown zucchini, they had a zucchini growing competition, weighed in at fifteen plus pounds and totally made me think of GC– she would have loved this!

Farmer’s Market..

Farmer's Market.

Do the Puyallup. (<–The first fair I went to!)

Ahhhhhhhh, summer, I miss thee already!

Today was the first day of classes (can’t believe some of you have been in for over a month!) which meant I was up early to stalk the registration and professors try and get in to closed/full classes. So far, so good.. I woke up with zero classes and now have two — just waiting on one more and it’s looking good.. glass half two thirds full!

Tomorrow I actually don’t have class but I do have a ton of reading to do, not to mention I don’t have my books yet! So that will be on the to do list, along with a morning or mid day hot yoga class *have I mentioned I’m liking my schedule?!* and babysitting tomorrow night.

Well, night bloggies, I’m tiredddd!!!!!

What’s your best/worst horror story of college registration? I feel like almost every quarter here, I’ve had to add classes last-minute because the ones i’ve wanted have been full! It always does seem to have a way of working out though!

DO you still babysit? Even though I’m “old” and have a “real” job, I love doing random babysitting jobs.. When this lady called me the other day to ask if I was free, I jumped at the offer– I love the *occasional* babysitting job, and kind of miss it from high school!

I took this picture this weekend, on the way to the market, it was such a gorgeous FALL day!!

The Best Kind of Getting Lost…

Is when you have no where to be! When it is gorgeous out, when you’re with your best friend and when you are on a horse.

Hi guys!!

Gaston says “hi” too!

Gaston loves apples.

I went riding with my friend yesterday morning, and yes, we got lost on the trails. It was excellent ๐Ÿ˜‰

Me and Gaston!

Actually, that’s kind of the theme of the last twenty four hours of my life.. I had such a good weekend! After my sister left Saturday morning, I was here that night, but went home Sunday afternoon, to attend yet another party–this time, my little sister’s, her two best friends from middle school and their parents. We’ve all basically grown up together.

The Drive Downtown, SO many people out boating!

I love our house for outdoor entertaining in the summer! Lawn chairs, an outdoor patio, a grill, the beach and water and a fire pit… beach bonfires are the best!!

My mom made an amazing eggplant and polenta parmesan dish that I definitely enjoyed made a huge dent in and my sister made a phenomenal strawberry rhubarb pie. I helped by setting out some apps,

Carbalicious dippers for the guac, salsa and humus, along with unpictured veg crudites, blue corn chips, shrimp cocktail and drinks!

I also made a pretty tasty Mediterranean orzo salad with sun-dried tomatoes, feta, olives and grilled peppers and onions that I will post the recipe for soon!

It was a fun party and cool for the girls to bring their families together–they have known each other since middle school, crazy to think they are all leaving this fall for college!

Yesterday morning, I met my friend early to ride. Riding Gaston makes me miss riding Gaston! :/

After we rode, I had to catch a ferry to get home so I could work at the yoga studio this afternoon. We got new hardwood floors this weekend, so the studio has been closed. I cleaned, worked at the computer a while and took a class–my body needed it after a few days off! It was definitely an intense class, especially the first hour, with the hot hot heat we’ve been having. I think that somewhat helped me get further into the poses, and I know I’ll be glad I did it today!

While entering computer data, I munched this new-to-me bar that I wanted to review; Crunch peanut butter Cliff I typically don’t really like Clif bars because I think they are too…sticky??, but I liked this one a lot! It was crunchy but kind of tasted like a mushy peanut butter and honey sandwich. Sounds gross, but it worked! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Crunch peanut butter Cliff

I also went grocery shopping and found some fun new finds!!!

Kale Chips, have seen these all over the blog world, will review soon!

Soysations faux cheese blend, hearts of palm, Corn thins, rythm chips, kammut puffs cereal, kashi honey sesame crackers

*not a very produce-filled shop ๐Ÿ˜‰

Today I have another day off and I plan to make good use of it! My boss is out of town this week so I am working tomorrow through Friday instead of my usual Mon-Wednesday. We are also having a huge family day event Friday that should be a lot of work fun, can’t wait to recap that!

Plans for today include a possible Target run and sushi date, probable Whole Foods, yoga and definite beach adventure with my house! I have missed most of the beach outings because of work so I am so excited to go today!!

What did you do this weekend? Do you like Clif bars, favorite one? Do you prefer entertaining or going to parties?

Also, the jury’s totally out. Okay, leftover’s don’t taste better lol ๐Ÿ˜›

โค you,

My new buddha key chain I bought on a whim yesterday, I love it! It's purple and so cute and I love to see it and think "yogi breath" lol, also love to add fun things to my key chain, haven't done that in too long!

My 100th Post!

Wow, have I fallen off the blogosphere or what, it has been way too long since I’ve last posted!

This is my one hundredth post though and I wanted to wait until I had enough time to make it a good one!!

I’ve been doing some of the same old, same old…

Blog reading avec my cereal mug

some mandatory summah fun ;),

'Nuf Said.

have eaten some good food,

Cookie Friday, Came a day early! Vegan Chocolate chip cookie from Whole Foods!

and lots of new!

I have been busy, busy this week! I started my new part-time job, and it has been going great! The position is in human resources, as the assistant to the department. So far, I have been writing press releases, making and distributing fliers and starting to work on a Wellness program for the company, which involves employee participation in healthcare screenings, eating well and having an active lifestyle. I think that part of the job has been my favorite–not so far off from the blogging community! I even did a little “research” through a few postings yesterday!

…However, glad to be off for the lonnnnnnng weekend!

I was also home for part of the weekend, after helping a friend face paint at her little sister’s birthday party. My parents had yet another party, this time for my mom’s assistant who is transferring to Houston this weekend. The party was great and as usual, the beach, sun, people, food and drink were phenomenal as well! I had a bunch of foodie pics but they all got deleted with my replacement phone! ๐Ÿ˜ฆย I love going “home” sometimes, nothing beats a well-stocked kitchen and puppy/kitty time!

R-Poxie! Aka Roxie Poxie kitty ๐Ÿ˜‰

got to ride this guy too!…

Rode Gaston on Sunday, trail ride with my mom and her friend!

Tonight, after work I did a hot yoga class. I have been doing a lot of hot yoga lately– I’ve really been enjoying the classes and feeling my strength improving! It’s crazy how much–or–little muscle memory can be gained and lost from yoga! I’ve often heard of runner’s building endurance and milage, and I feel that way with yoga. When I first started, planks were hard–now I’m working on much more challenging and involved postures. How has fitness regimen or yoga practice evolved? Do you notice with more–or less–workouts, a difference in your body strength?

Yoga left me wanting to gnaw my arm off so I stopped by Whole Paycheck Foods to grab dinner. Sushi was very necessary tonight ๐Ÿ˜‰ as were the copious free samples to hold me over!

Poached salmon roll with eel sauce, yum!

Tonight my house is having a rush party, which should be fun and very much needed! I’ve been busy and working hard this week, so I think I deserve a night of fun! ๐Ÿ˜€

Well, this has been quite the random, all over the place post. I suppose that’s how my life is right now–running around, working, playing… summer-ing, you get the idea! I feel like I have been off the blog band-wagon in the past few days though and want to catch up! I have still been reading and promise to start being a better commentor again! ๐Ÿ˜‰

What’s new in your life? Work, play, friends, etc?! This weeks highlights, let’s hear them!!

Have you passed the “one hundredth” post mark on your blog yet??

what’s your favorite thing about blogging? I’m so glad I started, I was ‘just a reader’ for too long! I love that it’s allowed me to meet people with similar interests, and I’m really really excited for the opportunities it’s presenting, like the Healthy Living Summit this August!

Ch ch chhanges..

Quite a few here!

This has been a whirl-wind weekend, but packed full of fun! Along the lines of this;

My weekend, following the celebration theme! This was a graduation cake from a party I went to last night.. unfortunately didn't get to have a piece, had to leave before they cut into it!!!!

When we last left off, I had just finished my last final of the quarter and was packing up to move out. Thursday afternoon, I treated myself to a much needed post-final hair dye appointment. I went to an Aveda training salon–great tip: training salons! They are taught by the same pros, and use the same high-end ingredients but so, SO much cheaper!! Wednesday night had been a late night/early morning due to my final and I was tirrrrrred, but glad I made the appointment–as I said I needed it! On the way there, I stopped by WF for my coffee, and snagged this lil guy,

Coffee w/ steamed soy and a free bakery sample!

WF PB & J cake!!

Peanut butter and jelly cake, um, yes please?! This was delicious and totally decadent. The sample size was actually the perfect amount, it was so rich! I also picked up this dried fruit bar from WF after seeing it on GCs blog.. my thoughts? DOn’t buy it!! I hated it, didn’t even finish!!!

Yuck! Tasted like ginger-lime flavored cardboard ๐Ÿ˜›

Brunch Saturday with my family was great and followed by my little sister’s high school graduation!!! It was so fun/crazy/surreal to see her graduate high school–can’t believe she’s done!

Saturday evening, after well-wishing my sister off to her overnight senior cruise, I went to a party that my old horse barn was hosting. This weekend marked the annual horse show they host every year, and I got to see some of it Sunday. In addition to drinking a few too many wine, talking and having an all around great time catching up with old friends, I got to see my boy, and see him in action Sunday! The woman who leases him from us now did a great job this weekend! I was so proud of them!! Made me miss riding him and I will definitely be “back in the saddle” this summer!!!!

Gaston!!!! I โค him!!!!!

Flyin' over the fences, 3'7" like it aint no thang!!

Gaston booty shot!

Hanging in the grass watching the horse show=much of my weekend...was a good way to spend it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Also included ice cream!!!!! Plus more, a la serving spoon, of course!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Sunday night’s graduation party took place at one of my sister’s best friend’s house, where they have a beautiful and expansive garden. We got a full tour of her father’s gardens which included a lot of fresh produce. I want one someday!

Gorgeous garden where the grad party was held

I left the party early and came back here to partake in lock-in which was basically like a get-to-know-you of all the guys and girls living here for the summer. It was fun, but after a few nights of wine, I laid off the alcohol last night. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Overall consensus as of now is that I think it will be fun living here this summer.I plan on going back and forth here –> home somewhat, but my roommate here is great–we’ve been hanging out a lot already. Today included coffee together this morning, then cleaning the yoga studio and shopping and sushi with a friend (my roommate joined too) tonight! Great day… and I may or may not need to leave now to go make a tequila pink lemonade with her!

Hope you all are having lovely Monday’s and enjoying the sunshine where ever you are ๐Ÿ˜€

Best/Worst roommate experience you’ve ever had?!! I’ve had some bad ones, but I’ll save those stories for next time ๐Ÿ˜‰

what else…

Forgot to show you this! ย Friday night when I visited my friend at his new apartment, he pulled out this name collage I had made him a few years ago! I can’t believe he’s kept it all this time–love that ๐Ÿ˜€ It is so funny looking back at old pictures and art, but so cool if you keep this stuff around!

Graduation Party, and I got a Job!!

Hi there! Sorry I’ve been MIA–one more final Thursday and I’m dunzo!!!!!!

Apres mon examen de francais Saturday morning (je suis finis avec cette course!), I made the trip home for my little sister’s high school graduation party…

It was a lot of fun; there was so much food, a ton of people, the weather was great and it was outside! Wine was flowin ;), bonfires and s’more makin’ and great conversations were had!! I love these types of parties–going home and seeing people and catching up–not something I get to do too often anymore! Plus, I think my sister had a great time. I remember that end-of-highschool, beginning of the “new chapter” of your life time like it was yesterday. Blink and you miss it. I think she and her friends are starting to realize they all have very little time left together over the summer, etc so it was fun to see them all get together for this!

(I know Katie’s sister is graduating this weekend too, shout out and happy birthday to her, girl!!!!!!!)

Love summer beach bonfires!!!!

Here is just a peek at the party food…we had a lot of people and quite the spread!!!! My sister is a vegetarian too, so my mom did a great job of having lots of veggie options! In addition, we also had pad thai, cheese boards and a mediteranian themedย platterย that I shopped for and prepped, tons of drinks, guacamole, fresh fruit and veg, and more!

veggie and turkey roll-up wraps

Shrimp cocktail and homemade chocolate covered strawberries!

My favorite! Sushi, dragon roll and vegetarian roll!

Vegetarian mexican platter!

chix and beef skewers for the meat eaters!

Mediteranian platter: humus, baba ganoush, olives, cornichons, feta, peppers

dippers: falafal chips (so good! very spicy!), rice chips, new sahale biscottis, kashi crackers

Fresh fruit and veg

wheeeeeeeeeeehhhh that’s a lot!!

Other weekend activities included visiting my boys!

Ray and Gaston! Ready to go!

I had to go to the barn to take that face thing off Gaston. He’s been having some issues with shivers, so he has to wear that during the day and has had to be in a stall during the nights lately. It made me sad because I can tell he hates it and it’s better for him to be in the pasture. Still, he was happy to be fed…

Hungry boy!

I also cashed in a free coffee at one of my favorite local coffee shops…

Fair trade coffee!

Gotta love fair trade!

Sunday night my mom flew to LA for work, so my Dad, sister and I went to dinner and a movie. We saw Killers, which was an interesting Mr and Mrs Smith-esque film. Overall I thought it was cute (espc Ashton!) but I’d wait to see it on tv next year–not really worth the $$!

Also found out the other day that I got the HR assistant position I interviewed for a few weeks ago!!! SOOO very happy and excited. I start June 28th, just need to get a drug test ๐Ÿ˜› and they’ll call my references, and I’m golden! ๐Ÿ˜€ Yayy!!!!

I alsooooooo ran into a blog friend today!!!! It was so crazy to see someone in real life that I know online, haha! Great talking to you today GC, and good luck with the final final tomorrow!!

Okay, I’m off to review my Com notes and do some studying!

Qs: What’s the best movie you’ve seen lately? Ever met a blogger in “real” life? Best blogger meet-up stories?? Best/worst summer job you’ve ever had??

โค Night!!!!

Disappearing Acts.

Hey Bloggies! Sorry ’bout my disappearing act this week. What can I say, spring break has been keeping me busy! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I have enjoyed time with friends, beach bonfires, movies, fro yo, shopping trips, lazy days hanging out, horseback riding, walks in the sun… all good things ๐Ÿ˜€

Unfortunately I don’t have too many pics of my eats as of late. In addition to Indian food feasts with friends, make-your-own fro yo (!), sushi visits and some culinary adventures I’ve had in the kitchen, I have been enjoying these…

cereal mess, fro fruit, bran muf with dark choco PB

enjoyed in the sun o course!

medjool date stuffed with cinn raisin pb and carob chips

I’ve been celebrating the spring weather with plenty of s’mores and bonfires…I love having bonfires when I’m home. I feel like it’s such a fun, social and unique thing to be able to do…something I obviously can’t at school! However, I’m still smelling campfire in my hair! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think this week has felt like it’s gone by a lot faster than previous breaks because I’ve seen a lot of friends from home, and have had different groups of friends come visit from school! It’s been a nice way to break up the week. ๐Ÿ˜€

I also did a little damage at Target, Forever 21 and the mall yesterday…

The. Best. (Pumpkin Spice) trail mix, mini raisin bran cereal.

…Did some baking in the kitchen..

mini cinn raisin swirl pb bran muffins with chocolate shavings!

…and have been riding my horse! I just did a long trail ride with my mom the other night, then brought a friend to the barn to show him my horses the other day. THen last night, I took a lesson! This was exciting for me because I jumped him for the first time in…a year?! And I was jumping almost three feet ;)Horseback riding is definitely something that has been thrown to the wayside since I’ve been at college. I am trying to rediscover things I enjoy, that make me happy, and I think Gaston falls into that category!

I am actually really itching to go back to school, though. I’ve had a great break, but I’m ready for spring quarter. I have a lot to do to register and organize my classes which is always a little bit stressful but there are also a lot of fun events coming up in the next couple of weeks that I am really looking forward to!

Alright, I’m off to have coffee with a friend, get a start on cleaning/packing/laundry,

So for my questions: What do you do on spring break when you are at home that you can’t do at school? Are you like me–ready to get back? Or would you rather have a two-week spring break?

Also, I need movie suggestions! I was thinking of seeing one with my friend tonight… anything good playing? Anything new out? I saw She’s Out of My League the other night–blech, don’t see it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have a great night bloggies and happy Friday!!! ๐Ÿ˜€
