Friday Fave Fives, Hello Memorial Day Weekend!

Ahhhhhh, it’s been a crazybusy week (aren’t they all these days?) but it is Friday which means one thing….

Yayyyyyyyyy Weekend!! πŸ˜›

Crazy to think just one week ago (well, last Thursday night), I was chillin’ in my (upgraded to Hospitality suite) hotel room, waiting for Fitbloggin to kickoff…

Well this Friday had a bit of a different feel…

I may not have been in Baltimore, and I may have only gotten a few hours of sleep after staying out too late and waking up too early; read: why I don’t go out during the week,Β but I did have some Friday faves’ today!

1. I’m bringing sexy cereal back….. I am a cereal monster, nothing helps a hangover better I think! ;P2. Mixing and matching wardrobe staples. And, my new jean jacket!

Black tights: DKNY for Nordstrom, skirt: Express, jean jacket: Forever 21, (unpictured) black flats: Jessica Simpson for Nordstrom.

3. Eating this {Monster} cookie at work today. It is cookie Friday after all.Β Okay, maybe a giant cookie helps that hangover better πŸ˜›

Chocolate chip walnut cookie. Done and done.

4. Whole Foods having a Friday night “happy hour bites“. Each Friday, the Whole Foods *which ohso conveniently happens to be on my drive home from work* hosts a tasting party of sorts, giving out a ton of gourmet food (and drink) samples in their store. It was like a free dinner tonight!Β Spicy shrimp, soup samples, grilled pineapple, watermelon, chocolate samples, hotdogs, maccaroni salad, sushi wraps…

Mango avacado wrap and an ahi tuna wrap sample.

There were so many samples tonight and I tried almost everything – I was full after!!

5. Today kicking off Memorial Day weekend –> No school or work Monday! Holler to that!Β Here’s to (my, and) your weekend being full of friends, family, good weather, horses and *insert your dog/cat here*, bbqs, good food, the farmer’s market, yoga, sushi, a drink or two and general shenanigans :)….

What are you looking forward to this weekend?!

Have you entered my Fitbloggin giveaway?! You only have until Monday!

Spring Break.

Back to life, back to reality today, yesterday, but I had a great ten-day spring break! It started with a wedding in Portland last weekend, Saturday night…

*remember when I went through the Portland train station when visiting my sister last fall? Took the train again last weekend, had a funny & interesting experience sitting with a Bachelor party that was going down, made some friends…

hung out with my sister, (and hit up our fave restaurants!),

commuted from home,

Gorgeous morning crossing...I do miss that view

worked a lot bit,

TAO memories πŸ˜‰

had a guest come visit, whom i showed around Seattle, and the island,

and finished the week with yoga reorganizing my room, hanging out and catching up with a friend and going to Susssssssssssssshi πŸ˜€

A fly-by week for sure, it felt!! This week will be a crazybusy one, full of trying to get in classes (but, already going v. well!) including FRENCH (<–back in the game language aftera brieft hiatus; a little scareed, but also excited!) work, my usual Monday sorority meeting and hot yoga, cleaning the studio, etc etc..

Glad to be back though! Looks like this will be a full quarter for me, but I am ready. πŸ˜€

What classes are you taking this quarter?

What did you do over Spring Break, if you get one?!

Vegas, Full of Surprises

Vegas was in a word, amazing.

As you know, my Mom and I had been planning this Mother-daughter trip for weeks now,

Little did I know my older sister was in on it. She surprised me at the airport, having flown in from Philadelphia for the weekend! I hadn’t seen her since Christmas, and to say I was overly happy/shocked/surprised would be an understatement… tears of joy may have were definitely had.

Getting ready in the airport bathroom, how we do πŸ˜‰

Another thing about this weekend?! It was a bit of a ‘World Tour’…..

Starting with lunch in “Paris” *aka at Mon Ami Gabi the Paris resort Casino*. The weather was perfect, I may have gotten a bit of a burn tan. πŸ˜€

Popping celebratory champagne,

Shared appetizers: scallops, shrimp cocktail, warm olives,

Baby bib lettuce, honeycrisp, beets, goat cheese,

Some of the. best. Sangria I have had, to date,

We continued our trip with a walk through the Millennium Mall, and then on to New York City,

The Cosmopolitan casino – new!,

*Check out that chandelier!*

We continued exploring the strip, headed back to our hotel, where the wait was over an hour long to check in (I kid you not!), relaxed a bit, and then headed out to dinner at Nobu at the Hardrock Hotel,

Yeah, we may have been a *little* happy to see each other,

Black cod lettuce wraps,

Yellowtail with jalapeno,

Kelp and Seaweed salad,

Nobu had been on my “must” list for some time, and it was great! Very elegant, and good food and drink to boot! I thought it was more of a ‘traditional’ sushi restaurant, but as you can see, not really the case – their specialties are more small hot and cold plates and sashimi plates. Regardless, we really enjoyed it!

Stay tuned for Part 2 of the recap!!
Until then, you should know, our night ended here,

Loved. Amazing.

Have you been to Vegas? Favorite part / place / casino / restaurant?!!

What’s the best surprise that has ever been pulled off on you? – I have to say, I was totally surprised with Morgan showing up at the airport – they thought there had been some *slips* last week and it wouldn’t work out, but I was shocked!! And I never get surprised – well done guys!

Sushi is My Favorite!!

Said in the voice of Buddy the Elf, “Smiling’s my favorite”! πŸ˜€

Really though, sushi is my favorite. It has the power to turn a bad day around….especially when enjoyed with a good friend πŸ˜‰

The Beauty of Conveyor belt Sushi πŸ™‚

Today started early. I was not too stoked when my alarm went off bright and early at 5:30, telling me it was time to pull myself out of bed and go to a 6 am yoga (the only one I could really fit in my schedule today) as per my 30-day challenge. I almost didn’t go – could have easily rolled back over and slept that extra hour – but I did, and I was so glad I did. The challenge is over in a few short days –I will do a recap post to follow up– but until then I really want to stick it out. πŸ™‚

Came home from yoga and may or may not have jumped back in bed for thirty more minutes πŸ˜‰ before getting up to go to Neighborhood Nutrition (got a GPS device today for a group project; we are taking turns ‘tracking’ our food spending and location this week) and then to work, for six hours. Work was….work. But there were some annoying things that happened today, that even office break room munchies,

A random few slivers of some kind of donut / cake thing this morning. too sugary, but good.

and a new-to-me lunch,

Kettle Cuisine Brand tomato vegetable soup I picked up the other weekend at Whole Foods

Sprinkled with nutritional yeast, with a side sliver of pizza "breadstick" and some unpictured crispy and mary's crackers for crunch....Soup was good to try, but too salty!

…didn’t seem to fix.

But….sushi redeemed the day after all!

After last night’s sushi / friend date had failed (she had to work later than I thought), I was happily surprised when it ended up working out tonight (she got off early and we were in the same area at the same time – love that!) We hit up my usual and favorite spot,

Per usual, we got tons of plate, green tea, and for me, ginger (I love the stuff!!!) and shared everything. Sharing really is best when it comes to sushi, friends. You get to try more things that way! πŸ™‚

Here are some of the highlights:

seafood island: mixed seafood pieces with seaweed salad

a new one! eel and crab with avocado and eel sauce!

the yellow roll -- the house roll: cooked tuna, crab and cucumber wrapped in egg

more sushi goods..

Yay, I now have a happy sushi belly and ready to take on tomorrow: eight hours of work, a hot hatha class after work…… and then, who knows? It is will be Friday!

How do you deal with stressssss or feeling over run?!

Last time you had sushi? What is your favorite type / roll?!

Night night!

Random musing: I saw this sparkling water at Trader Joe’s the other day and had a random craving for it. My older sister always drinks what she calls “selzer” (Seltzer, Morgan?) water, and seeing it made me miss her…. and buy some πŸ˜‰ Do you have any foods / drinks that remind you of people??

"Selzer" water

Likewise, my little sister got me turned on to these gummy vitamins; get your vitamins! πŸ˜€

Sour gummy vitamins a la Target!

Friend Dates are the Best!!

Especially when they include all of my favorites!!! πŸ˜€

First up: Good friends. Check! My friend Jackie, (yes, same name) who I have known since we met in acting class when we were twelve years old! She is a twin and the three of us go wayyy back. I ❀ them – and we have sooooo many stories of our teenage years! πŸ˜‰

Second, my fave dinner place: check! Sushiland, of course!!

Seaweed salad and sake to start, a must makes the sushi taste so much more delicious πŸ˜€

We even got a special roll last night, a purple (the most $$) plate, the Spider Roll,

Tempura Crab and Cucumber

Don’t try to deny it… we all know tempura is the best sushi.

We ended up eating, sippin’ sake and chatting for an hour and a half… I think my Sushiland record!! Seriously it was so nice though; I feel like we lead two very separate lives and while every time we get together, it’s like not much has really is hard to keep up friendships sometimes when you a) don’t go to the same school, b) I work all the stinkin’ time and c) just really don’t ever cross paths. Regardless, it was fun to catch up!

After our sushi and sake fest, which included the sharing of many plates,Β we were pleasantly full, but of course that didn’t stop us. Jackie the informant told me of a magical place that had opened near SL….

Hello, free samples!!!!!!

I love self-serve frozen yogurt, and it had been forever! We were so full, but we definitely had to check it out! I have thoroughly drooled over Menchie’s creations seen around but I didn’t know we had them in WA. I will for sure be back to make one of my own soon!

We left just in time to go to her house around the corner and watch this week’s Grey’s Anatomy -TV…another thing I haven’t done / watched in for evah! – and 30 rock and drink a glass of red wine.

All in all, a very fun evening! πŸ˜€

Last night, I was invited to a “Grab-A-Date.” That’s a Greek term for a fraternity or sorority social event where you have to grab someone to be your date.

The theme?

"Tour de Franzia"

Yes, that’s right. Hello, a bunch of college student’s chugging cheap, boxed wine, wearing biker uniforms and sharpied-on fake French mustaches’ on the guys… My date and I looked at each other like, “yeah, we are too old for this.” Even so, we had fun sipping our wine; it ended up being Β a fun night. πŸ˜‰

^More to come!

Today, after hot power yoga this morning, a trip through the farmer’s market and Whole Foods for my Saturday morning coffee buzz, I spent all too many hours sitting in a chair of the Aveda Training salon, getting my hair colored. It took forever and was tiring and boring, but I got some reading done for class and now I’m supah blond again πŸ˜‰

Tomorrow morning I have a yoga class and then I’m going to stick around to do a specially-offered Meditation class they are offering for the thirty-day challenge. I’m really looking forward to trying it! I probably should go to bed early and not be doing this…

But…what can I say?! <–Ha, not a very compelling argument!!

Last time you hung out with an old bestie?? Do you keep up with friends from you childhood?? How do you make long-distance (or short-but-never-see-each-other) distance friendships work?

30 Day Challenge and Success in the Kitchen! :)

Currently in the library, manging on this beauty…

"So pink, so prettttttttttttty" - Nina in Black Swan

*Funny story: My older sister has pretty much coined the term “manging” as in I am “manging” this [insert food item here.] Lol.*

So as I mentioned the other night, I went home Saturday, with a friend, to visit my mommy and kitty and kitchen πŸ˜‰ relax and recharge. I also really wanted to bring said friend home – she has only been once and it had been almost a year!

While I was home, I made an incredible stir fry. It was one of those probably-can-never-again-achieve this because you don’t know how much of anything was thrown in types of recipes, but it was good. Wish I had taken pictures of it while cooking, but some wine and talking may have been involved, and the camera slipped my attention.. Anyway, it included a sauce of fresh garlic and ginger, soy and sesame ginger sauces, with mixed carrot, eggplant, red pepper, broccoli, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, sweet potato, onion, snow peas and mushrooms. Over a brown rice and grain mix, and topped with fresh cilantro, basil and chopped, Sahale pineapple spiced cashew pieces. (I will insert a picture of the leftovers next post!)

Yesterday’s ferry ride home lunch consisted of a local grocery’s salad bar (similar to Whole Food’s lovin) and a few pieces of shared California roll,

Mixed greens, romaine, chili tofu, tuna salad, veg, a few bites of this and that and sushi piece. All eaten with chopsticks, a side of the newest US Weekly and my once in a very purple moon Diet Coke πŸ™‚

Other eats at home included this snacky plate of random vegan, gluten free goodies I got as samples from a local vendor at Whole Foods, along with a few slivers of my sister’s banana bread w/ myΒ  mom’s blackberry jalapeno jam.

Couldn’t decide so I tried ’em all :),

Vegan, Gluten-free goodies, banana bread and cashews. This x2.

With the New Year here, and all, there are health and fitness related kick-start/resolution/etc etc plans everywhere it seems. As mentioned, I’m not a huge fan of resolutions per say, but I did decide to join in my yoga studio’s thirty day challenge. What does this entail? Thirty yoga practices in thirty days. Oh boy. It will definitely be a challenge, but I am looking forward to it πŸ™‚ It started on Saturday, and so far, so good! I will be out of town next weekend, a college-weekend-getaway-trip, so today and Thursday I am completing a noon class and a later PM class to make up for the missed days. I will keep you guys posted πŸ˜€

After coming home a sweaty, hungry beast from hot yoga last night, I dove in to some leftover bread pudding that the cook had made from dinner. I am working on my sweets overload, but bread pudding is a favorite of mine, so I had to have a few bites πŸ˜‰

Bread Pudding with a side of Buddah πŸ™‚

Which I promptly followed with a cereal mess! It has been forever – okay well, not forever, but too long – since I have had one of these. Remember when I used to have them all the time? The idea is simple: start with your cereal base, in this case, pb puffs from Whole Foods, and some other random ones mixed in there, and then your additions; in this case, frozen berries, a little bit of vanilla chai vega,

Cereal Mess.

To be topped with vanilla almond milk, and a spoonful of your nut but of choice,

Spoonful 'o bettern pb before the almond milk pour

Love these and they will definitely be making a re-appearance. I like my crunch and my mix of flavahs!!

Well, I’m off to hit up Trader Joe’s (I want some flowers for my room!), order books and go to my Monday night meeting, then hot yoga, and cleaning the studio. Tonight I have fun plans to attend a Margarita Monday party. A busy day for sure, but busy is good!

Hope your Monday has been bon!

Best thing you ate or did this weekend? Do you have a version of a “Cereal (or oats) Mess”?!

Have you made any New Year’s resolutions or what are your goals for the year?

You Win Some, Lose a Few

There were a few fails last night.

New Year’s Eve had promises of being a good evening, thanks to kicking it off with dinner with my best sushi friend at our famous spot...

We had to have one last good meal to soak up the alcohol we were about to consume leave 2010 with a last hurrah, right?

The sushi delivered, Β the parking ticket I got *for the first time ever, and we go here all the time!* sitting on my dash boardΒ when I got back to my car after dinner, did not. NYE Fail #1.

Sushi Land bathroom - HA

After hearing one of the parties we were planning on attending was cancelled, *NYE Fail #2*, we were still in positive spirits. We went back to my friends house and made some cocktails while getting ready,

Mixed Coffee Dranks πŸ™‚

Not a fail, those were good. And… kept us up!

Another un-fail was my outfit.

New dress and new heels to ring in the New Year πŸ˜‰

We hit up party #2, which was fun, at the house where I lived this summer. It was great seeing people I haven’t seen in a while and catching up. Ringing in the New Year with friends is the way to go πŸ™‚

However, Fail #3 happened. As you know, I have terrible luck with my car,

Funny Story to go along with that cookie....but this note turned into a mini nightmare..

My keys disappeared last night. Luckily my sister didn’t end up having to come save me – they were found – but it is still kind of unclear whether they were taken by someone or *misplaced*. As they were in my coat pocket, I’m kind of leaning toward the former. Blood, sweat and A few tears, lots of searching and some phone calls later (receivedΒ after a 2:30 am walk back to my friends appartment in the cold) they were *found* and this morning I went back to the house to try and find the guy, which was another long search.. Anyway, at least I got my car back and it didn’t get stolen or towed.

[ P.S.: I was not drinking and driving, just trying to ensure that my car was safe overnight!! ]

Anyway, I didn’t sleep well last night due to that stress & the coffee, I think –but really, who sleeps well after NYE?!– so right now I am laying in bed, watching the Food Network and just taking it easy today.

How was your New Year’s Eve? Any funny horror stories?!

Plans for the first day of 2011?? Recovering? πŸ˜‰
